“The Host” and reflective failure at the movies.

I wrote an essay on The Host, the terrible movie by Andrew Niccol, adapted from Stephanie Meyer novel of the same name. You should check it out.

It’s at Hothouse, here. It starts thusly:

First things first. “The Host,” the science-fiction body-snatcher drama adapted from the Stephanie Meyer novel and directed by Andrew Niccol, is a disaster of a film. I haven’t read Myer’s novel, but the film adaptation provides no direction to viewers unfamiliar with the story. From the first scene “The Host” veers off what rails it was laid upon, and never recovers.

And continues full of insight and with great love for one of my all-time favorite movies, Gattaca.
