Saturn Awards, 39th edition

Genre entertainment doesn’t get all the love at the awards shows you are probably most familiar with. The Saturn Awards fill that gap. This week saw the 39th Saturn Awards, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. This year’s awards now complete, you’ll never guess who won big?

Joss Whedon! That’s right. Cuz he’z best.

Whedon won Best Director for The Avengers, beating out Rian Johnson, Peter Jackson, William Friedkin, Ang Lee and Christopher Nolan. Not too shabby. Avengers also won Best Science Fiction Film. Cabin in the Woods (the most delightful slasher movie I’ve ever seen) won Best Horror Film.

Congratulations, Mr. Whedon.

Other winners of interest to TTMY:

Best Fantasy Film: Life of Pi.
Best Action Film: Skyfall.
Best Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, Hunger Games.
Best Writing: Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained.
Best Cable Television Series: Walking Dead.
